You are invited to sit in meditation for an hour wherever you are, in your home or with friends. Total beginners and longtime practitioners, non-initiates and initiates are welcome. If you cannot sit for the entire hour, sit as long as you are able; as Swami Veda has said, “Let the quietness of the mind continue even after you rise..”

Swami Veda Bharati has written:

Yoga Philosophy views the mind as Universal field; its waves passing through us and becoming our individual minds. This Universal mind is a radiant force and is also known as a Universal Guru within.

When all sit together at the same time even in different parts of the world, they connect to the Universal Guru mind and generate a strong field, like so many magnets being joined together and forming a much stronger magnet; the strength of each then equals the combined strength of all.

Thus it is when we join together in meditation, and together enter the Guru-mind’s Field. On certain days of the year the Wave of Beauty and the Wave of Bliss flows very strong. These are the sacred days.

Swami Ritavan Bharati has said:

The full moon meditations are an opportunity for us to come together in connecting with the universal mind-field bringing unity, harmony, peace and love. Go into your silence; exhale-release, inhale-accept, forgive & fulfil, with purified heart and mind receive the blessings of the Lineage.

Calculating Your Time

There are four “1 hour” periods within the 24 hours. We invite you to sit with others at your local time, calculated from the nearest time zone as listed below. The times below are in local time. If your local time is observing a summer/winter switch (called “Daylight Savings Time in the USA, for example), then use that time. Basically, convert the time and time zone below to your local time. A good resource for calculating local times next to another time is

Local Timings

7 AM in India (IST), surrounding countries adjust the time accordingly, for example Iran is 5 AM.
8 PM in East Asia, 8 PM Singapore time. Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand etc. adjust their times to coincide with Singapore time 8 PM.
8 PM in U.K. (London Time). Those in all European, and all African time zones, please adjust your sitting time to coincide with 8 PM United Kingdom.
10 PM in New York. Surrounding countries and regions of South, Central and North America and the Caribbean to match their time to 10 PM New York time.

Toronto affiliate (Himalayan Yoga Meditation Society of Ontario) meets at 9:00 pm

How is the full moon calculated?

The dates of the Full Moon Meditations are announced after our Ashram Pandits have worked out the exact hours and minutes of the full moon each month. The hours of the full moon span two calendar days in western time. By Swami Veda’s request, the date with the most full moon hours is chosen for the Full Moon Meditation.

Could you please explain the timetable of Full Moon Meditation

in several parts of the world and how it works? For example, we want to sit together with Swamiji the same time, correct? So, when Swami Veda sits in Rishikesh at 7am this would be 9:30am in Shanghai, 02:30am in London, etc. But the instructions say that China should sit at 8 pm, GMT at 8 pm, New York at 10 pm, and so on.?

Swami Veda Bharati sat more than one time on the full moon meditation day. There are four “1 hour” meditation times within the 24 hour period of the full moon date. So, no, globally we do not all sit at the same time. However, sadhakas within various regions sit at the same time. Even though Swami Veda has left the body, the meditation times will stay the same. Swami Ritavan Bharati now sits at the appointed times just as Swami Veda did.

Original Invitation from Swami Veda

Dear Meditator, Fellow Wave of Light,

Late in 2003 I made an experiment with all the initiates in India who all, each in his/her own home, sat for meditation with me. The responses that came encouraged me to open World-Group Meditations to all.

Experienced meditators, initiates, non-initiates, and beginners of any tradition or no tradition are invited to participate and they will experience the grace and guidance of the Lineage.

There are two kinds of group meditations:

  • Many sitting at the same time and the same place.
  • Sitting at the same time, but not at the same place.

I have set special times on all Full Moon Days in the coming months to sit in meditation with you. Please join me at the time. Let us link together in this awakening into interior serenity.

It is definitely not this little Swami but my Guru who connects with you through this medium.

Do write me afterwards at about how you felt.

Awaiting to feel your presence in this joining of the World Group of meditators with the Guru-Mind.

Yours in service of Gurudeva,

Swami Veda Bharati

Please inform your friends. Everyone is encouraged to participate in these special gatherings.

On the Full Moon, the Universal Mind and Love

Swami Veda Bharati was asked the question: “You encourage us to meditate on the full moon day. Through the meditation we are connected. You are in India and we are in Taiwan. What is the mechanism by which this happens?”

I am sitting here and you are sitting two meters from me. That is quite a long distance! And we are connected. How does this happen? If you are sitting behind that pillar, how does that connection happen? Your body is limited in space and time. It has dimensions, a past, a present and a future, and you think you are a body. So long as you think you are a body, you will not understand the connections that exist in the universal mind. When you and I are meditating together, and there are periods of silence, we are connected. Because at that time, you are not thinking of the body, you are purely in the mind. So when you will learn about your mind and soul, you will know that there are no distances the universe. If a master was sitting in a galaxy, one trillion light years away, and you were sitting on this mustard seed size planet, the connection would still be there. And when the master is not in the body, the connection is still there. In fact, the true traditions of this earth are still being passed on, mainly by the disembodied masters. They are the ones who have brought you here. Somebody dreams something, somebody gets a very strong feeling inside. Something inside you says, “Let’s go and meditate for fifteen days in Rishikesh.” From where does that feeling arise in you? Who make you think that thought? You think it was your own inclination.

But there is some greater hand that is guiding you. There are times when people come to Rishikesh who do not know anything about this ashram. Somebody in Brazil gets a strong feeling to go to India and go to Rishikesh. The lady arrives and goes and sits down in a hotel. She does not know where to go. Seven days she sat in her hotel room. Then she got tired of sitting in the room, so she came out and started walking. Or took a vehicle, which stopped somewhere, and she started walking, and she sees the ashram and just walks in. Somebody from the reception says, “Swamiji, there is a lady here from Brazil, and she is leaving for Delhi and the airplane tonight.” I called her to my chamber. She speaks Portuguese but she understands Spanish. I gave her five minutes of meditation, and that was enough, her purpose of coming was fulfilled. And she meditates impressively.

Why ask about Full Moon Meditations? Somebody is broadcasting in a machine in Moscow, or Washington or Beijing. And you are hearing it in Taiwan. The person who does not know about radio waves wonders, “How does this happen?” It is not coming over some wires, but the instrument is tuned to the waves, because those waves are everywhere. So your mind is everywhere. Understand the nature of the mind. How is it that a mother is sitting in her house and her child is in an accident. And she gets this strong feeling inside, and she runs out and finds her child. How is the connection established?

Because it is a link of love between the two minds – the mind of the mother and the mind of the child. The mind of the masters and those who are serving the masters – their mind is a motherly mind. If you are not a mother, you cannot be a teacher. When taking a teacher training program here, whether you are male or female, learn to be a mother. A mother to anyone who passes by you. A mother to anyone who comes to your class. A mother to anyone who has any suffering. A mother to anyone who has any need. Then you are a teacher. And the persons should feel that they are being mothered. So the connection between the master’s mind and your mind is like the connection between a mother’s mind and your mind.

Please understand that this mind is not something limited to the size of your body. Your mind is not some kind of liquid or solid that is poured into the vessel of your skull, and kept there with a tight lid. Like the radio waves, your mind is an all pervading wave. You are a wave in the universal mind, and you are also the wave that is the universal mind. Can you take a piece of chalk or pencil and draw a boundary line between two waves in a river? Can you draw a line between two waves in the sea and say, “Wave number one, you stay on this side, and wave number two, you stay on that side. This is my country and that is your country?” Can you do that? You cannot do that. The energy is not in the shape of the water. The energy is that, because of which, the water becomes the wave. So the wave of your mind, and the wave of another’s mind touch each other. When the one mind wave and the other mind wave touch each other, and know that they are loving and embracing a fellow mind wave; when they know that it is the light waves of the mind that are embracing each other – what is that called? That touching of the minds, that hugging and embracing of the minds? What is the name for that embrace? It is called love.

And when you truly love, you can sense what is happening with the object of your love, even a thousand miles away. How does that connection happen? It happens even in those who do not understand that they are not the body. It happens even in those who do not understand the universality of the mind principle. And it happens much more in those who have understood the universality of the mind principle. When you understand that, then you are t teacher. Not because you can recite the relaxation exercise. If you are not a mother to the person you are teaching, then you are not a teacher. You be the mother mind and let that person be the child mind.

Guidelines for Full Moon Meditation

“We need to convey the following to all those who participate in the full moon meditation and those who guide such groups.

“In our Tradition mantras are not chosen at random. They are conferred by those who have been initiated and authorised to do so.

“Those who have not received a mantra in the Tradition may use:

  • So Ham
  • The name of their favourite form of the deity.
  • If they do not believe in any of these they may use one of the different ways of counting the breath.

“Please do not pick up just any and every recording of Swami Rama or Swami Veda which has reference to a mantra. The non-initiates may use the recording that guides the meditation according to the above 3 options.”
