SUMMARY:Yoga is Samatvam: Bhagavad-gita
2.48 \nPerform actions dwelling in yoga\, abandoning attachment\, O Conquerer of Wealth\, being alike to success and failure. Equanimity is called yoga. – Bhagavad-gita Ch. 2\, v. 48. \n \nThe Bhagavad-gita propounds sadhakas to perform their daily actions in a manner that does not create any conflicts or suffering for themselves or for others around them. When faced with objects of opposite natures—pain and pleasure\, sorrow and joy\, one may learn to observe the fleeting nature of the world and maintain the awareness of one’s own essential nature. \nSwami Rama in his commentary\, the Perennial Psychology of the Bhagavad Gita\, has explained Samatvam as “the sense of equanimity. It is the characteristic of a yogi who is ever established in knowledge. Such a yogi sees no difference between gold and dirt\, heat and cold\, pain and pleasure\, and so on.” \nIn this contemplative study with Rabindra Sahu\, we would try to learn and apply the principles of this samatvam in our daily life. \nAs our Master Swami Veda Bharati would often remind us that it is not possible to put a price on the teachings received\, there is no course fee for this course. Loving donations from the heart may be offered and will support the ashram during the pandemic. \nTeacher: Rabindra Sahu\nBegins: 7 Jan 2023 (Saturday)\nThe six sessions will be organized over three weekends (Saturday and Sunday) at 6-7 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) from 7 – 22 Jan\, 2023.\nKindly convert to your country’s time-zone accordingly.\nMedium: Online through Zoom\nRequest: Kindly join only if you are able to commit to all the 6 sessions\, as the topics are progressive and systematic.\nLast Date for Registration: 6 Jan\, 2023 (Friday)\nFor Registrations/Inquiries/Donations: ahymsin@gmail.com \nRecommended Readings:\n1. SUMMARY:Contemplations on Bhagavad-Gita - Chapter One
DESCRIPTION: \n\nTimes of despair prod us into enquiry and can be our stepping stones on the path of divinity. \nIt was in such a state of anguish that Arjuna faced on the battleground when he turned to Lord Krishna for guidance. The first chapter of the Bhagavad-gita is titled Arjuna Vishada Yoga\, the yoga of Arjuna’s despondency and sorrow. In a state of confusion and dejection\, Arjuna the mightiest warrior of his times sinks into grief and depression\, and casts his bow and arrow aside. Sri Krishna as his charioteer imparts the teaching of the Bhagavad-gita to bring Arjuna out of the deluded state. \nThe Bhagavad-gita is a condensed essence of wisdom of the Upanishads. The first chapter provides the foundation for this major text as a starting point of the enquiry of a seeker. Many readers pay less attention to the first chapter. However\, it provides valuable insights into human personality. It introduces the characters\, the participants in the war and their symbolic personalities that open up many psychological and philosophical lessons. \nIn this residential retreat with Rabindra Sahu\, we will attempt to study the Bhagavad-gita through a disciplined process of Study-Contemplation and Implementation (Shravana-Manana and Nidhidhyasana).

SUMMARY:Meditation in the Bhagavad-Gita
DESCRIPTION:The Bhagavad-gita is a most sacred ancient Indian scripture\, offering timeless teachings on how to live a meaningful and balanced life while pursuing one’s duties in the world and spiritual growth within. This beautiful text is a condensed form of the teachings of all the Vedas and Upanishads\, and contains teachings on many aspects of yoga\, including karma yoga\, jnana yoga\, bhakti yoga\, dhyana yoga\, and more. \nChapter 6 of the Bhagavad-gita—Dhyana-yoga—offers profound insights into the practice of meditation\, including theoretical understanding and practical tips on one’s meditation pracitce. \nThis six-day programme with Rabindra Sahu is as much appropriate for beginners as for more advanced practitioners treading the path of spirituality. In this special retreat\, we will explore and practice the wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita\, while immersing ourself in the daily ashram schedule of the ashram with daily havana (fire offerings)\, morning and evening prayers\, gentle hatha yoga\, pranayama\, relaxation\, and guided and silent meditation. \nIn his book Meditation and Its Practice\, Swami Rama of the Himalayas wrote:\n“For thousands of years\, the science of meditation has been studied and practiced by aspirants who sought to make their lives more serene\, creative and fulfilling. Meditation will give you the capacity to improve your health\, your relationships and the skilfulness with which you perform your activities. This is because meditation can do something no other technique can accomplish – it introduces you to yourself on all levels and finally leads you to the center of consciousness within\, the higher self\, which is called Atman.”
